Chapter 47 || BOUND AND TORN BY PROPHECIES

A Reckoning of Bonds

The evening sky stretched wide and silent as Jungkook mounted Spark, his lightning dragon. The bolts of energy crackling around his form dimmed just enough to illuminate the forest path ahead. He gripped the saddle tightly, exhaling as he urged Spark forward with a soft command.

The dragon’s massive wings unfurled, sending a gust of wind through the trees as he launched into the air, their destination clear: the dragon cave.

The ride through the twilight was marked by an uneasy silence, only the sound of Spark’s wings slicing through the air filling her ears. His thoughts spiraled around Taehyung’s anger and Mili’s growing distance, the guilt weighing heavier with each passing moment. He had broken something sacred, something he hadn’t fully understood, and now he could only hope to repair the damage he had caused.

The dragon cave loomed ahead, a structure carved naturally into the rock face of the mountain. Its jagged entrance cast dark shadows, glowing faintly with the amber warmth of the dragons that resided within.

Jungkook dismounted Spark as he landed gracefully at the mouth of the cave, his crackling energy dimming to a gentle hum. He patted his neck softly, his mismatched eyes scanning the cavern for any sign of Mili—and Taehyung.

Stepping inside, the cool air brushed against his skin, the dim light casting strange shapes on the uneven walls. The space was vast, a sanctuary for the dragons to rest and retreat. His footsteps echoed softly as he moved deeper, the silence broken only by the occasional rumbling breath of the sleeping creatures.

Then he saw them.

Mili lay curled in the far corner of the cavern, her fiery presence illuminating the space around her like a living ember. But she wasn’t alone. Tangled in an almost protective embrace was another dragon—a magnificent creature with shimmering frost-like scales that caught the faint light and reflected it like shards of glass. It was Taehyung.

Jungkook froze, his breath catching in her throat as she took in the sight. Mili and Taehyung’s dragon forms were cuddled together, their massive bodies intertwined in a way that spoke of comfort and trust. Their breathing was deep and synchronized, their tails curling together like two rivers meeting as one.

For a moment, Jungkook hesitated, unsure if he should disturb them. But he knew he couldn’t leave without addressing what had happened. He stepped forward cautiously, his movements slow and deliberate, not wanting to startle them.

“Mili… Taehyung…” he called softly, voice trembling but steady.

Mili stirred first, her amber eyes flickering open as she let out a low rumble. The fiery dragon shifted her massive head, blinking as she recognized her guardian. Taehyung’s frosted form remained motionless for a moment longer, his breathing steady before his crystal-blue eyes opened abruptly. His gaze locked onto Jungkook, cold and piercing even in his dragon form.

Jungkook stepped closer, heart pounding as he prepared himself to speak. “I came to apologize,” he said quickly, voice breaking slightly. “For everything—for not listening, for ignoring your warnings, for betraying the bond I and Mili share. I was wrong.”

Mili rumbled softly, her amber eyes softening as she nudged Taehyung gently, as though urging him to respond. But Taehyung remained still, his massive form radiating a quiet, restrained anger. Without a word, he unfurled his frosted wings, their shimmering expanse filling the cavern as he prepared to take flight.

“Taehyung, please…” Jungkook pleaded, taking another step forward. “I’m sorry.”

But his words seemed to fall on deaf ears. Taehyung growled lowly, his dark blue sapphire-like scales catching the light as he launched himself into the air. The gust of wind from his wings sent dust scattering across the cave floor, his towering form disappearing through the entrance before Jungkook could say another word.

Mili let out a low whine, shifting her massive head toward Jungkook. The fiery dragon’s eyes met her guardian’s mismatched gaze, the warmth in them a stark contrast to Taehyung’s icy retreat. Jungkook exhaled shakily, his fingers brushing against Mili’s scales.

“I’m sorry,” Jungkook murmured, his voice trembling. “I didn’t mean to hurt you. To break what we have.”

Mili rumbled softly, lowering her massive head until it rested gently against Jungkook’s shoulder. The dragon’s warmth enveloped her, a silent gesture of forgiveness that brought tears to Jungkook’s eyes. He leaned into Mili, her guilt giving way to quiet relief as he realized that, despite everything, their bond hadn’t been completely destroyed.

“Thank you,” Jungkook whispered, stroking Mili’s scales gently. “Thank you for trusting me again.”

Together, they left the cave, Mili’s massive form following Jungkook and Spark through the darkened forest path. The journey back to the palace was quiet, the air heavy with unspoken words. Mili’s presence beside him was comforting, a reminder that forgiveness was possible—but it didn’t erase the ache of Taehyung’s silence.

When they arrived at the palace, Jungkook dismounted Spark and bid him a quiet goodnight before leading Mili back to her resting bed. The fiery dragon settled onto her makeshift bed, her eyes watching Jungkook as he stroked her scales one last time.

“I’ll make it right,” Jungkook said softly, his voice filled with quiet determination. “I promise.”

Returning to his chamber, Jungkook closed the door behind him and leaned against it, exhaling deeply. The weight of the day pressed heavily on his shoulders, emotions a tangled mess of guilt, frustration, and sadness. He crossed the room slowly, his mismatched eyes fixed on the bed that seemed to beckon him like a haven.

Plopping down onto the soft mattress, Jungkook buried his face in his hands, replaying the events in his mind. Taehyung’s cold silence, Mili’s forgiveness, and the promise he had made to himself—it all swirled together, leaving him exhausted. He lay back against the pillows, his thoughts refusing to quiet as sleep began to creep in.

The last thing Jungkook remembered before drifting off was the image of Taehyung’s dragon form disappearing into the night. The ache in his chest lingered, a reminder of the bond he needed to repair and the promise he couldn’t afford to break.

As he fell asleep, the quiet hum of Mili’s presence seemed to echo in his mind, a comforting reminder that, despite everything, their journey wasn’t over.
