Chapter 57 || BOUND AND TORN BY PROPHECIES
Between Fire and Feathers
Taehyung vanished into the skies, leaving behind nothing but
a faint shimmer of heat, a trail of obsidian scales that sparkled like
stardust, and Jungkook—absolutely mortified.
He stood in the middle of the warm dragon chamber,
hair tousled from sleep, cheeks aflame, clutching the edge of Mili’s wing like
it was a lifeline. He had barely taken a step when he felt it—eyes.
Two very familiar pairs. Niki and Spark.
The twin dragons stood a few steps away, their expressions unreadable for a
moment. Until they both tilted their heads in perfect sync and gave him a look.
A very human-like look.
A look that screamed: ‘Well. That was interesting.’
Jungkook’s face turned a deep, furious red. He threw
his hands over his cheeks and groaned quietly. “Oh no… no, no, no…” he
muttered. “You two saw everything, didn’t you?” Niki blinked slowly, tail
swishing like she was savouring the drama. Spark tilted his snout and gave a
soft puff of air, like a laugh.
“They’re not even my soul-bonded dragons like Mili,”
Jungkook whispered to himself in panic, “and somehow they’ve become like my
kids, and I—what kind of example did I just set?!”
He turned to them with a nervous smile. “Alright, alright, let’s all pretend
nothing happened, shall we? Maybe you imagined it! A bad dream? Yes? Right?”
Niki let out a soft coo, and Spark snorted lightly, smoke
curling out of his nostrils in what could only be interpreted as amusement.
“Traitors…” Jungkook hissed under his breath, glaring at the dragons before
attempting to regain his composure.
He had just begun to calm himself, thinking he might slink
out unnoticed, when the heavy chamber doors swung open again with a soft click.
Oh no.
In walked Nyla, her regal robes swaying with her graceful
stride, and right behind her, Yoongi, cheerful as ever.
Jungkook instinctively stepped in front of Mili, trying to compose his
wind-tossed hair and
definitely-not-just-accidentally-slept-beside-a-naked-prince-in-dragon-form
expression.
“Jungkook!” Yoongi called brightly, rushing forward.
“How’s Mili? I came as soon as I woke up.”
“She’s… she’s doing better,” Jungkook replied, voice only
slightly higher than usual. “Much better, actually. Resting well.”
“She looks great,” Nyla said with a kind smile, approaching
Mili and giving her a gentle stroke along the scales. “Seems like the bond is
healing.”
Jungkook nodded quickly, still avoiding eye contact with literally
anyone who had functioning eyes.
“Good,” Nyla said. “We were worried last night.”
“So was I,” Jungkook mumbled. “But Taehyung helped. A lot.”
Yoongi leaned close to Mili and whispered something sweet,
while Spark and Niki both glanced at Nyla, clearly full of secrets they weren’t
sharing yet.
After a few moments, Nyla turned back to Jungkook,
still utterly composed. “You should get ready. We’re gathering for breakfast in
the east wing dining hall. Varian was asking about you.”
Jungkook tried not to flinch at the mention of Varian’s
name. “Right… breakfast. Yes. I’ll… I’ll be there soon.”
Nyla gave him a knowing glance—just a fraction of a smile,
almost like a smirk—and turned to leave, her long robes brushing the stone like
a whisper. Yoongi waved, and the doors closed behind them.
Left in the chamber with Mili and her two smug dragon
witnesses, Jungkook finally sighed.
Only for Spark to let out a low whistle and Niki to puff a
little heart-shaped smoke ring into the air.
“Oh, for the love of—” he grumbled. “You two are grounded.”
