Chapter 65 || BOUND AND TORN BY PROPHECIES

The Dragon’s Heart

Jungkook stormed away from there the moment the crowd erupted into applause. He couldn’t take it anymore — the glittering robes, the hollow cheers, the pride on the King and Queen’s faces as they announced the dragon festival celebration for Taehyung — and most of all, the way he stood there like none of it mattered.

Like he hadn’t changed everything with a single touch, a single mark that still burned beneath his clothes.

He didn’t stop walking until he reached the dragon chamber.

The massive hall was aglow with warm, magical light. The dragons had been adorned in royal jewels and ceremonial silks, their scales polished until they shimmered like the finest gems. They looked magnificent — proud and ancient, their eyes glowing with quiet reverence.

The grand dragon festival would begin with an ancient dance — a sacred ritual that he and Taehyung had spent the last few days training them for. It was supposed to be beautiful. It was supposed to be magical.

But all he felt now was tired.

He unwrapped the over-shawl from his shoulders and let it fall beside him as he walked toward his favourite trio — Spark, Mili, and Niki. They let out soft chirps as he approached, shifting their enormous bodies to make space for him. Without hesitation, he climbed onto them, almost lying across their warm, jewel-draped forms.

“I can’t take this anymore,” he whispered, resting his head against Mili’s side. The dragons cooed softly, sensing his sadness, their warm bodies pressing around him protectively. “I was okay with being here just for the salvation part,” he murmured. “Helping the dragons, restoring the bond. That was what I was chosen for… But now, now it’s all wrong.”

His voice cracked. The tears came silently, streaming down his cheeks.

“I tried to stay away from him. I really did. And now look at me. Marked. Bound. Every feeling I tried to hide is even more overwhelming now. I don’t know what to do, Spark.” Spark nuzzled his shoulder gently, his eyes shimmering with understanding.

“I’m just human,” he said. “Just a mortal boy. I’ll grow old. In a few decades, I’ll have wrinkles, gray hair, and weak bones. But dragons… dragons live for thousands of years. They don’t die of age. They choose when to leave. When they’re ready to become stardust and join the ancestral skies.”

His voice trembled. “What if Taehyung falls out of love the moment I start aging? What if he looks at me one day and feels… disgusted? He’s never even seen what aging looks like. How could he understand?”

He wiped his eyes, his breath shaking. “He probably thinks he loves me because he’s always seen me. He’s been around me since he was young, before he met any other princess or courted anyone. I was just… there.

What if now, surrounded by all these royal daughters, all these beauties with their grace and magical bloodlines, he realizes he made a mistake?”

The dragons shifted beneath him as if to protest, but Jungkook kept going.

“He’ll choose one of them. Mate with one of them. And when he does… when he does, the bond between dragons and their mates will hatch new eggs. That’s what I was chosen for, wasn’t it? To help restore the legacy of dragons. To bring salvation to their dying race. I did my part.”

His tears flowed harder now. “But this bond… It’s already killing me.”

Mili let out a soft wail and curled her head over Jungkook’s lap, nudging him in comfort. Niki chirped sadly, tucking her head beneath Jungkook’s arm.

“If he really believed in destiny, like he said… then why didn’t he tell his mother? Or the King? That he’s already chosen someone? That he had already marked someone?”

He looked up at the ceiling as if searching the heavens for answers. “He said I can’t run from destiny. But maybe it’s not that I can’t run — maybe I should. Because even if this is destiny… It’s a short one. A fleeting one. One that will end in just a few years.”

“I’ve taken a lot of hate in my life,” he whispered. “But I don’t think I can handle it if he ever looks at me with hate. Or disgust. Not him. So… I’ll leave. I’ll bring salvation like I was meant to. But I won’t stay.”

He closed his eyes as the dragons curled tighter around him, trying to hold him together.

“I won’t let my heart be pierced by something I know will end painfully.”
