Chapter 53: HIS LUNA
Silence and Unexpected Heat
The night was quiet.
Too quiet.
The kind of silence that stretched through the air like a premonition,
unsettling and tense. Even the wind seemed to hold its breath, rustling only
faintly through the trees, as if afraid to disturb the fragile stillness.
The air was thick with tension, an eerie stillness settling over the pack.
After weeks of relentless training and preparation, the warriors were left in
an unsettling quiet. The anticipation of war hung in the atmosphere like an
unspoken curse. Every wolf could feel it—the storm was coming, but it hadn’t
struck yet.
Taehyung sat on the balcony of his chamber, his golden eyes fixed on the
horizon. The moon was high, casting a soft glow over the darkened forest. His
muscles were taut, his instincts restless. He had spent hours sparring, pushing
his body beyond its limits, yet the unease gnawed at him.
Behind him, Jungkook sat by the fire, poking at the flames with a thin
branch. His violet eyes flickered with unease. The tension was suffocating,
pressing down on them like a heavy storm cloud.
“You should rest,” Taehyung murmured, turning his gaze to his mate. “You
haven’t slept properly in days.”
Jungkook scoffed, a dry laugh escaping him. “Neither have you.”
Taehyung exhaled heavily. “I don’t need sleep.”
Jungkook shot him a pointed look. “You do.”
They held each other’s gaze for a moment, a silent battle of wills, before
Taehyung sighed in resignation. He stepped closer, crouching beside Jungkook
and resting a warm hand on his thigh. “Come to bed,” he murmured. “Just for a
little while.”
Jungkook hesitated, but before he could respond, a sudden wave of heat
washed over him.
His breath hitched.
Jungkook had been acting strange all day. The Omega, who was usually fierce
and composed, had been quieter, his movements slower, more hesitant. He hadn’t
sparred as aggressively as usual, nor had he argued with Taehyung over the
smallest things. Instead, he had retreated to their chamber without a word.
A soft whimper broke Taehyung’s thoughts. His head snapped toward the
doorway, where he found Jungkook leaning against the frame. The Omega’s violet
eyes were glazed, his skin flushed. He was breathing heavily, a fine tremor
running through his body.
Something was wrong.
Taehyung immediately rose to his feet, his wolf bristling with concern.
“Jungkook?”
Jungkook swallowed hard, gripping the doorframe as if it were the only thing
keeping him upright. “Something… something feels off,” he whispered, his voice
unsteady.
A shiver ran down Jungkook’s spine, but it wasn’t from the cold. His body
tensed, muscles locking as a strange, burning sensation coiled in his stomach.
His vision blurred for a second before sharpening, his heartbeat hammering
erratically against his ribs.
Jungkook let out a shuddering breath, his body betraying him. His scent
intensified, thick and intoxicating, wrapping around Taehyung like an
inescapable fog. His pupils dilated, his lips parting as he tried to fight
against the urge clawing at him from within.
Taehyung stepped closer, and the moment he inhaled, his pupils dilated. The
scent hit him like a tidal wave—thick, intoxicating, unmistakably laced with
need.
“Fuck,” Taehyung growled, his own instincts flaring to life. He wasn’t
prepared for this. Not now, not when the war loomed over them like a curse.
Heat.
But that was impossible. Jungkook’s cycle had never been unpredictable
before. It was always controlled, balanced. With the war so close, neither of
them had anticipated this.
Jungkook’s legs gave out, and Taehyung was there in an instant, catching him
before he hit the floor. His mate trembled in his arms, his breaths coming out
in short, erratic gasps. “Tae… I can’t—”
“Shh, I’ve got you,” Taehyung murmured, his voice tight. His wolf was
howling, the primal urge to claim and protect surging through him. Jungkook was
vulnerable, thrown into an unexpected state neither of them had prepared for.
Jungkook buried his face into Taehyung’s chest, his hands clutching at his
mate’s shirt. “It hurts.”
“Jungkook,” he said firmly, cupping the younger’s flushed face. “Breathe.
Focus on my voice.”
Taehyung cursed under his breath, lifting Jungkook into his arms with ease.
He carried him inside, setting him down on their bed, brushing damp strands of
hair from his mate’s burning forehead. “This isn’t normal,” he said, more to
himself than to Jungkook. “Your heats don’t just—”
Then it clicked. The witches had warned them—about the ritual, about the
bond’s full awakening. Jungkook’s body was reacting to the shift in power, the
coming war, the looming danger. His wolf was seeking comfort, anchoring itself
to its mate before the chaos erupted.
His wolf howled in distress, but he forced himself to stay calm for
Jungkook’s sake.
Jungkook whined, shifting uncomfortably beneath Taehyung’s touch. “Tae,
please… do something.”
Taehyung clenched his jaw, forcing himself to stay composed. “I need you to
breathe, baby,” he whispered, pressing his forehead against Jungkook’s. “I’ll
take care of you.”
“We’ll get through this,” he promised, his voice a soothing murmur. “I’ll
help you.”
Jungkook’s grip tightened. “Don’t leave.”
“I won’t,” Taehyung promised, his voice soft but firm. He wasn’t going
anywhere—not tonight, not ever.
Jungkook’s breathing hitched, his entire body trembling. His heat had fully
settled in, and there was no turning back. Taehyung knew he had to take responsibility,
to claim and soothe his mate properly.
With a deep growl, he pressed Jungkook onto the furs beneath them, his
golden eyes glowing with possessive need. “I’ll take care of you, my love,” he
whispered before sinking his teeth into Jungkook’s scent gland, marking him all
over again.
Jungkook gasped, arching into him, his body submitting to the only one who
could ease his suffering.
The silence of the night shattered, replaced by soft whimpers, possessive
growls, and the undeniable claim of an alpha over his omega.
And when dawn finally arrived, Jungkook lay nestled in Taehyung’s arms,
knotted, fully claimed, and glowing with the undeniable bond of their love.
As the storm of heat and war brewed around them, he vowed to keep Jungkook
safe. Even if it meant surrendering to the fire burning between them.
