Chapter Fifty-Six "Phoenix in His Arms"
The Dance Floor and the
Watchful Eyes
The party was in full swing. The music pulsed through the air, filling the
grand hall with an electrifying energy. Students laughed, danced, and enjoyed
the extravagant welcome that Phoenix Ridge University had prepared for them.
The chandeliers glowed warmly overhead, casting soft golden hues over the
elegantly decorated space.
Soobin and Jimin exchanged glances before making their way toward the food
corner, their eyes sparkling with excitement as they examined the lavish spread
of delicacies. "I swear, if they have chocolate-covered strawberries, I'm
never leaving this spot," Jimin declared, scanning the table.
Soobin chuckled. "You and your obsession with sweets."
Meanwhile, Jungkook grabbed Niki’s wrist, dragging her toward the dance
floor. "Come on, let’s dance!" he grinned, his enthusiasm infectious.
Niki scoffed but followed without protest. "You’re lucky I’m in the
mood for this."
The two lost themselves in the music, their bodies moving in perfect rhythm.
Jungkook's effortless charm, combined with the way his shirt clung to his toned
figure, made it impossible for onlookers to tear their gazes away. He was
magnetic, captivating, and completely unaware of the effect he had on the
people around him.
One of those watching with intense interest was Kai. His dark eyes gleamed
as they followed Jungkook’s every movement, filled with an undeniable hunger.
His grip tightened around his glass as he licked his lips, determination
evident in his gaze. He wanted Jungkook—needed him—and he would do whatever it
took to claim him.
Not too far away, another pair of eyes was locked onto the dancing figure.
Professor Kim Taehyung stood among his fellow professors, assigned to ensure
the event ran smoothly. At first, he had simply observed the crowd, but the
moment Jungkook stepped onto the dance floor, his entire focus shifted.
The silk of Jungkook’s black shirt shimmered under the soft lights,
emphasizing his sculpted form. The slight opening at the collar revealed
teasing glimpses of his collarbones, which seemed to be drawing far too much
attention from those around him.
Taehyung's jaw clenched as he noticed the way both men and women ogled
Jungkook shamelessly. His grip on the wine glass tightened, his knuckles
turning white.
He knew Jungkook was beautiful—everyone did. But seeing people stare at him
like a prize to be won ignited a fire within him, one that burned hotter with
every lingering gaze directed at his brat. He exhaled sharply, his dark eyes
filled with irritation as he forced himself to remain composed.
From across the hall, another observer had taken note of the entire
situation. Professor Jenny, dressed in an elegant midnight-blue gown, watched
Taehyung closely. The way his eyes never left Jungkook, the way his lips
pressed into a firm line, the way his body tensed—she noticed it all.
A smirk curled on her lips as her fingers traced the rim of her wine glass.
So, Taehyung was affected, after all. He was jealous. And if she played her
cards right, she could use this to her advantage. If Jungkook was in the way,
she would make sure he was removed.
Tonight, Taehyung would belong to her.
The party continued, but the atmosphere was shifting. Unspoken tensions
brewed beneath the surface, each gaze carrying unspoken intentions. While
Jungkook danced, unaware of the storm that was slowly forming around him,
Taehyung seethed, Kai schemed, and Jenny plotted.
The night was far from over.
