Chapter 56 || BOUND AND TORN BY PROPHECIES
Between Fire and Feathers
The moon hung high when Jungkook returned.
His steps were soft against the polished stone, quiet
like the breath of night itself. He had barely touched his dinner, and despite
his best efforts, his thoughts had circled back to Mili. Worry tugged at him
like an old friend he never quite got rid of. Mili had seemed better
earlier—but dragons were strange creatures. Bonds were strange things.
He gently pushed open the heavy doors of the resting
chamber. And what he saw made him freeze on the threshold.
Curled in the centre of the glowing chamber was Taehyung—in
his dragon form. His enormous obsidian-scaled body shimmered faintly beneath
the magical lights, elegant wings wrapped around something in the middle. Mili.
Jungkook’s breath caught as he stepped closer. The
young dragon was snugly tucked beneath Taehyung’s wing, her breathing slow,
peaceful. She looked—safe. Whole. Loved. That sight alone pulled a deep ache
through Jungkook’s chest.
Taehyung…
His large form radiated warmth and power, but there was
gentleness in the way he cradled Mili with his tail, like she was the most
fragile treasure in the realm. Jungkook smiled faintly, heart softening despite
himself. Not wanting to disturb them, he turned to leave—only to yelp in
surprise when something curled around his waist and pulled him back.
Taehyung’s tail.
“Wha—?!” he gasped, stumbling into the warm nest. Before he could escape, he
found himself pressed gently—but firmly—between Mili’s curled body and the vast
chest of a slumbering Taehyung.
“What do you think you're—? Taehyung—!” he hissed.
No answer. The dragon only gave a contented, sleepy exhale,
heat puffing gently against his neck. Mili, half-awake, blinked at him with a
sparkle in her eyes that could only be described as cheeky.
But the warmth… gods, it was comforting. The nest of scale
and fluff, the low thrum of Taehyung’s sleeping heart, Mili’s familiar scent…
it wrapped around him like a protective lullaby. With a long sigh, he closed
his eyes.
Just for a little while.
The Next Morning
Sunlight trickled into the chamber like honey. Jungkook
stirred, blinking awake slowly… until something warm and firm shifted against
his side. He frowned. This wasn’t his bed.
Wait…
His eyes shot open, and his breath hitched. He wasn’t just
lying against anyone—he was wrapped in a very naked Taehyung, his arm
draped tightly around Jungkook’s waist like he might vanish if he let go.
And worse?
He was pressed against him in every sense of the word. Only Mili’s
sensible, perfectly positioned wing draped over them like a blanket, shielding
his lower half from any unwanted view. The dragon was clearly awake, blinking
at Jungkook with a sparkle in her gaze.
A sparkle that said, ‘Enjoying the view?’
“Oh, stars above—!” Jungkook whispered harshly,
clutching his face. “Not again!”
He wriggled carefully, trying not to make a sound.
Big mistake.
Taehyung shifted, tightened his hold around him, and nuzzled his face closer
into the crook of his neck. His voice was thick with sleep, deep and lazy:
“Mm… you’re so loud in the morning…”
Jungkook’s eye twitched. “Taehyung…”
Still half-asleep, he smiled faintly against Jungkook’s
skin. “You smell good…” he mumbled.
That’s it. With a small growl, Jungkook reached
behind his hair and pulled on his ear.
“Augh—ow! Okay, okay—I’m awake!” Taehyung groaned,
voice cracking. He opened one blue eye and blinked sleepily at him before
letting out a low chuckle.
“Good morning… mommy.”
Jungkook’s palm came flying toward him, but he was too fast.
With a teasing smirk, Taehyung's form shimmered and
vanished—his dragon self taking his place in a blink. The obsidian beast leaned
down, brushing his snout against Mili with a soft croon in dragon tongue, his
deep voice translating only to Mili’s ears:
“Good morning, my little flame.”
Then, with a majestic stretch of his wings and a final flick
of his tail against Jungkook’s shoulder, he launched into the morning sky,
leaving behind a flustered guardian and a very smug baby dragon.
